These configuration examples apply to typical, simple situations. They can be easily customized to meet the needs of your environment. The examples below are for these products:

  2. You will need to modify these configurations depending on your model of switch, software version, VLAN port assignment, and your network's IP addresses.
  3. Information on how to troubleshoot configuration problems, including configurations based upon these examples, is not provided here. Examples

» Switching (No Routing) with IP Address for Network Management (pdf: 86.4 KB)
spacer image The Routing Switch is configured to switch all traffic and has an IP address for network management. Routing is disabled.

» IP Routing and Switching of Non-IP - No VLANs (pdf: 80.2 KB)
spacer image The Routing Switch is configured to route IP traffic and switch non-IP traffic between two ports. RIP version 1 is enabled.

» IP Routing with Switching Turned Off - No VLANs (pdf: 77.5 KB)
spacer image The Routing Switch is configured to route IP traffic between two ports. Non-IP packets will be dropped (not forwarded).

» Relaying DHCP Packets to a Remote Server (pdf: 91.3 KB)
spacer image The Routing Switch is configured to relay (route) DHCP traffic between a client and remote server, each on a different VLAN. All protocols are switched within each VLAN.

» IPX Routing (No VLANs) with NetBIOS Enabled (pdf: 91.2 KB)
spacer image The Routing Switch is configured to route IPX traffic between two ports with NetBIOS enabled. All other non-IPX traffic will be switched on these ports.
